What happens when you take two of your favorite things ever and put them together? I decided to test this out with cookie dough and cake. What did I end up with? Complete magic. I took this amazing eggless cookie dough, and through it in the middle of a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. The result was better than I could have imagined… I can’t wait to mix and match more of my favorite foods.
Dylans’s Candy Bar is like dying and going to candy heaven. With only five locations in the world, this buffet of sweets is right by my job, which means serious trouble. I don’t let myself go there too often, but when I do, oh my goodness! It is such a unique candy store… it combines two of my favorite things – candy and art. They have over 5,000 different types of candy here! From jelly bellys, to cotton candy, ice cream, chocolate fountains, vintage sweets, and any type of candy you are looking for, this is the place to go. I clearly always find myself in the fudge & chocolate sections. Have you ever been to Dylan’s? What are your favorite sweets?
In case you didn’t already know, I love chocolate. I need to eat chocolate every day. I was frantically searching my apartment for something chocolatey to eat, but all I could find was chocolate chips. There is nothing better than a warm, homemade chocolate chip cookie – and I had all the ingredients for the classic snack already in my pantry. But then I started fantasizing about one of my favorite restaurants and the best dessert on their menu, a deep dish, hot and melty, chocolate chip pie, a la mode, and I immediately starting searching for a recipe. I found this recipe that was prefect and so easy to make. They recommend letting it cool completely, but I obviously stared at it for 10 minutes, and then couldn’t wait any longer. I cut in even though it was still burning hot and melting everywhere. So yummy!
If you’re having trouble deciding between vanilla and chocolate, this is the way to go. The checkerboard cake isn’t as complicated as it looks and tends to impress people. Here is how it’s made.
Make 4 round cakes, 2 vanilla / 2 chocolate.Using various items in the kitchen, [I used a shot glass, a drinking glass, and bowl] cut out 3 circles into each of the cakes. Separate all of the pieces and put them back to together, making each piece look like a target.
Stack them on top of each other, inverting the colors on the outside for each layer.
Decorate the cake.
Cut it opened, and be impressed with yourself!
So many restaurants have “chocolate lava cake” on their dessert menus. Being a huge chocolate fanatic, I usually can’t resist a warm chocolate cake with oozing chocolate filling, gushing out with each fork-full. Who would have thought something so decadent could be so simple. I certainly didn’t. I found this recipe, and with only 5 simple steps, and all the ingredients already in the house, this cake would be mine. I had to double the recipe [and the cook time], because I only had 10 ounce molds, where the recipe called for 4 ounce molds. This was so easy and is so delicious. Next time we have dinner guests, I will definitely impress them with this for dessert!
What do you make someone who makes cake for a living? Not cake. For a friend’s birthday I decided to make her these cookie dough brownies that I have been drooling over since Rachel over at How Bout Some Cake started raving about them a few months ago. [I also used this eggless cookie dough recipe for these cookie dough truffles] When she said they were one of the best things she ever made, I was just waiting for the perfect occasion to give me an excuse to make them. I made the exact recipe that she recommended, except that I naturally doubled it. Rachel, you do not disappoint. Everyone, get into your kitchen and make this!
If you are a fan of the ultimate summertime treat s’mores, you are a going to love this little twist to the classic dessert. I was expecting this to be good, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that good! Wow. What I did to make this delicious treat was make dark chocolate brownies while I was getting the rest of the ingredients ready and prepped. When the brownies were done and still very hot, we roasted the marshmallows in our kitchen. As soon as the marshmallows were roasted to perfection, we placed the super-hot brownie onto the prepped graham cracker with the piece of Hershey’s chocolate on it. This melted the chocolate perfectly. We quickly added the marshmallows and top cracker and dug in. BaDing thought it would be funny to snap some pictures of me devouring them… they weren’t pretty. So good. So messy. Highly recommended.
I will buy cookie dough without any desire to actually cook it… just to eat it raw. Probably not the best idea. Until I found out that you can make egg-less cookie dough!! I had no idea this even existed until I read this post. Seeing as how I love to make truffles (exhibit A & B) – I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the egg-less mixture. I followed that simple recipe, balled them up, and dipped them into melted bakers semi-sweet chocolate. Absolutely delicious… And you don’t have to worry about getting sick from eating gross raw eggs.
Earlier this year I saw this “Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie n’ Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar” recipe here. The second I laid eyes on this decadent treat I know who I had to make it for. My brother, Matt, absolutely loves sweets and he is one of my favorite people to bake for. His birthday was the perfect excuse to give him this outrageous combination of his favorite sweets. A layer of chocolate chip cookies, topped with a layer of double stuffed Oreos, topped with a layer of fudgey brownies, topped off with classic vanilla ice cream. Anyone with a sweet tooth needs to try this out.. and I need to get this insane dessert out of my house so I will stop eating it!
